Drawing From Yoga with The Bohemian Introvert

By adding her own illustrations to her Insta yoga pix, she created something we'd never seen

When we first discovered Emily—a yogi better known as The Bohemian Introvert—on Instagram, we were blown away by the amazingly detailed illustrations that set her feed apart from the rest. She spends hours decorating each photo with a colorful doodle, like a butterfly hanging out under her wheel or a cactus on her crow, essentially turning her ‘gram into a digital art gallery. Emily started documenting her yoga practice a little over a year ago through unpolished photos and candid captions in the hopes of building a practice and overcoming social anxiety, and she’s since come into her own, developing her artistic abilities, building a creative community, and finding newfound confidence along the way. We were so inspired by her journey and her amazing art that we asked her to illustrate a few Alo photos, just for us. Scroll down for the finished pics, plus some of our favorite inspiring quotes from her Insta captions.

"Discovering yoga and spending time in this IG yoga community, my perspective is shifting. There are still things I wish to improve, but I'm finding that I love my body as it is more and more, and the things I want to change have less and less to do with physical looks. I can hop on my mat for a quick flow and not wind up stepping off it for hours. There is magic to be had in discovering the things you love."

"Imagine all the things we could accomplish if we stopped being so afraid. True strength lies in doing all the things anyways, knowing that even if it goes wrong, you've got this."

"There is no better or worse, there's just different. I think that applies to just about anything in life. Take your yoga practice—just because other people might be able to do a more advanced pose, it doesn't devalue your practice. There is no end goal here, just continued growth."

"Probably my favorite thing about the yoga community is the level of support that exists here. There is so much overall focus on the positive, rather than people competing with each other and trying to be better or have a cooler picture. You realize the longer you're in it that it's all about lifting each other up as a whole, cheering each other on and helping each other. It's magic."

"The body never stops amazing me. There are so many things I distinctly remember feeling impossible that are slowly unraveling for me."
