Want to get your chakras in order? Not sure what that really means? Good news—our next YouTube yoga series, 7 Days of Chakra Balancing is all about the chakras, or the seven energy centers in the body, and is designed to balance the body, mind and soul. Starting September 25, yogis Alissa Kepas and Andrew Sealy will lead seven daily 30-minute flows (one for each chakra!) with energizing sequences and breathing exercises that will help you nourish different parts of the body and put the good feels from the mat into practice everywhere else. Read on for a breakdown of each chakra and a sneak peek at the new series, then sign up here!
Root Chakra
Located at the base of the spine, the root chakra controls feelings of safety, stability and security. When balanced, it will help combat fear, anxiety and, on a more physical level, elimination issues.
Sacral Chakra
The sacral chakra, which sits just below the navel, is essentially your pleasure center. It holds all your creative and sexual energies and, if open, will contribute to feelings of passion and positive well-being.
Solar Plexus Chakra
As the source of self-confidence and willpower, the solar plexus chakra rules your relationship with yourself. It's located just above your navel in your abdomen and is said to also be tied with stomach and digestion health.
Heart Chakra
The heart chakra governs your relationship with love and compassion, and when it's open and fully realized, you're more likely to feel at peace with yourself and others. When it's blocked, you may feel jealous, angry or hurt.
Throat Chakra
The energy center in charge of self-expression and communication. An open throat chakra allows space for greater focus, more active listening and the ability to articulate yourself clearly, not to mention a healthy throat and thyroid.
Third Eye Chakra
The third eye chakra is located between the eyes and is the key to unlocking your intuition. Balancing this chakra leads to a deeper connection with the self, greater peace and a healthy mind—basically, a no-brainer!
Crown Chakra
Situated at the top of the head, the crown chakra is responsible for spiritual connection. When it's open and balanced, it allows you to reach a higher consciousness and cultivate more energy on and off the mat.
